DONATIONS FOR COAST GUARD FAMILIES

 

The City of St. Petersburg is home to US Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, one of the USCG largest commands.  The US Coast Guard is America’s maritime first responders and are unique because it is not part of the Department of Defense, but rather falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Homeland Security.  Because of that, as of today January 15, 2019, US Coast Guard personnel will continue to report to duty without pay. For many Coast Guard families this is their only income.

All donations will be distributed to our local US Coast Guard families through the Sun Coast branch of the US Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer’s Association (CPOA)*.   The Sun Coast CPOA covers approximately 670 active duty members north to Yankeetown, FL south to Ft. Myers.   The USCG base in St. Petersburg is home to approximately 220 active duty personnel.  Units such as Yankeetown are surrounded by a small community, some donations received from the St. Petersburg area will be pushed up north to Yankeetown to help evenly distribute donations to all Coasties and dependents in need.

Below is a suggested list of item that could be of help:

 

Grocery Gift Cards (Public, Aldi, Winn Dixie, Walmart)

Gas Station Gift Cards

Non-perishable food items

Snack for kid’s lunchboxes

Coffee

Protein bars,

Health Snacks

Cleaning Items to include paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, bathroom and kitchen cleaning products, laundry detergent

Toiletry items to include toilet paper, feminine products, toothbrushes/toothpaste for adults and children, body soap, shampoo, conditioner

Baby items, diapers (all sizes) pull-ups (all sizes for both girl and boy) baby wipes

City Employees will be participating in this donation campaign until further notice. We would like this to be a joint effort with our associations in helping the Coast Guard during the shutdown. Since we already have set up the logistics with the Sun Coast CPOA; donations can be dropped off at the Community Services office, located at City Hall (175 5th St. North) or we can set up a day/time to pick up.
