Historic Kenwood Public Art – Finials

AEHK members — Paul Barrera, William Bryant, Janna Kennedy Hyten, YaeL Kelley, Rich Pollin, Michael Toth & Dwayne Shepherd will be producing their finials, and attachments will be fabricated and affixed to them. And then – sound the trumpets! – all sixteen finials will be featured at Woodfield Fine Art Gallery (thank you, Jim Woodfield!) at 2253 Central Avenue on October 12th for the Second Saturday Art Walk in October. So put the date on your calendar and plan to celebrate our gifted neighbors!

And then…LOOK UP! Shortly thereafter, intrepid volunteers will be climbing up to mount the finials on selected street corners throughout all four quadrants of the neighborhood.

Once we have captured our learnings from this pilot, we will be soliciting proposals for another round of finials. Part of what we have learned through the adjudication process is that not all art translates effectively to public art – particularly when it is placed 12 feet up in the air on top of the sign post. We will find ways to communicate more about that before the next request for proposals. We look forward to more AEHK artists participating in the next round – including those who submitted proposals for the pilot.
